“Ned Sturgis is one of the most connected and stunning dance performers in [Minneapolis].”

Ben McGinley, Minnesota Playlist

“Th(e) solo— ‘Genesis,’ based on Hippolyte Flandrin’s ‘Young Male Nude Sitting by the Sea’ and danced by Ned Sturgis — was the most striking. A rendering of the story of creation, it began with Sturgis, dressed only in skivvies, writhing on the floor and proceeded through evolutionary stages — from crawling to rising to all fours to standing unsteadily to an ultimate release from terrestrial binds. Sturgis’s strength and articulation made each stage both painful and pleasurable to watch and his final triumphal leap into the air, coinciding with a blackout of the lights, made for a dramatic finish.”
